AWARD WINNING FARM SHOP TO HOLD SUMMER FOOD FAIR ON AUGUST 16th

Lower Clopton Farm Shop will be holding a Summer Food Fair on August 16th in celebration of their local suppliers & farmers. Visitors will be provided with the chance to meet some of the local farmers who supply the seasonal produce available in store and the opportunity to taste their delicious summer foods.

The Farm Shop recently reached the national finals for best new farm shop from the National Farmers’ Retail & Markets Association (FARMA) and their pork sausages won the title of Tastiest Breakfast Sausage in the West Midlands earlier this year. During summer months they produce their own home made BBQ range including many varieties of sausages, burgers, grill sticks, spare ribs and marinated meats, available to taste on the day.

In addition to the famous BBQ tasting, a vast array of other summer foods and drinks will be free to sample. There will be a range of local beers and ciders from Purity and Hogans along with award winning cheese from Simon Weaver and Gorsehill Abbey Cheese. Top quality picnic foods from Simple Suppers will be available to taste including quiches, pies, tarts and sausage rolls while local fruit farmers will providing a range of soft fruit and juices. Spot Loggins Ice Cream will be providing the opportunity to taste their tempting flavours that include Ginger, Honeycomb, Apple Pie and Cappuccino.

There will also be the chance to meet the farm animals, enjoy a cream tea, and win a BBQ hamper while enjoying some traditional family entertainment.

The farm trail & picnic area currently being developed on the previously inaccessible Meon Hill, will be open to the public that day for a preview with views over Stratford, The Vale of Evesham and north Cotswolds. The two circular farm trails starting from Lower Clopton Farm are scheduled to be completed and formally opened during the Spring of 2009.

A family run business, Richard Baldwyn is the third generation to work this 211 acre farm.

Richard comments, “We opened the shop to supplement our farming income back in November 2004. Our aim is to sell the highest quality British produce, sourced either directly from their farm or other local farmers where possible. The family believes in supporting the British economy and local farming community, so you’ll find that 99% of the produce available in the store is British. The food has travelled a maximum of 50 miles and over half our suppliers are from a 10 mile radius of the shop. Our staff are all locals. Buying direct from our farm puts you in touch with the seasons when the produce is the best you can get. We feel the less food is hauled, handled and added to, the better it is. Come along and we will promise you'll taste the difference!”

The Farm Shop held a very successful Christmas Food Fair in 2007 that saw over 400 visitors brave the chill November day to sample their festive foods and free range turkey. Numbers are set to rise for this family summer event.

The Summer Food Fair & Farm Trail will open at 10am and close at 4pm. Lower Clopton Farm Shop is nestled at the base of Meon Hill on the B4632 Long Marston road, 7 miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon and just north of the Cotswold village of Mickleton.

Unfortunately we are going to have to cancel the events planned for today due to the bad weather. We have no dry sheep for shearing and it's not really BBQ weather either! If anyone does want to brave the weather, the Farm Trail is still open as usual and you are welcome to come and have a walk round that (and see if there are any ducks on the pond!). We appologise for any inconvenience and hope to see you in the shop another day.

Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old to enjoy the living, vibrant countryside. Take time to listen to the birds, soak up the scenery, experience the smells of the farmyard and really get in touch with the land that feeds us. Discover at first hand what it means to be a farmer and taste the produce.

Walk our farm trail on Meon Hill, see farming demonstrations, meet the animals, hear all about modern farming methods straight from the farmers mouth, enjoy our activity trail for kids, visit our farm shop and BBQ, enjoy the views and picnic on Meon Hill with its panoramic views.

Come and feed your senses on Open Farm Sunday between 10am and 4pm – free to attend!

There will be activities as follows:

Guided Farm Tours at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm (to include meeting the turkey chicks)

Shearing Demonstrations at 11.30am and 3.30pm

BBQ 12 - 2pm
